How AI Helped Me Build My First WordPress Website: Beginner building a WordPress website with help from AI, showing website planning, design, troubleshooting, and step-by-step learning

How AI Helped Me Build My First WordPress Website

This is the story of how I built my first WordPress website with the help of AI, learning one step at a time as a complete beginner. Last month, I did not even know what a domain was or really understand how hosting worked. I had never seriously imagined that I would be able to build a website from scratch. But I had an idea, and I wanted to see if I could turn that idea into something real.

That idea became CreatePath AI. I chose WordPress after watching many YouTube tutorials and seeing how other people were building blogs and websites. What attracted me most was the flexibility. As an artist, I wanted more control over the design and structure of the site. WordPress seemed to give me the freedom to build something that could look and feel like my own.

WordPress is also one of the most widely used website platforms in the world. According to W3Techs, WordPress powers a large share of websites that use a known content management system. That gave me confidence that I was learning on a platform with a large ecosystem and many resources. I had to learn everything one step at a time. What is a domain? What is hosting? How do I connect them? What is SSL? Why is a page not loading? Why does something look different after I change a setting? What does this error message mean? Those questions became part of the process.

AI Became More Than a Writing Tool

When I first started, I used AI almost like a mentor. I shared my thoughts and asked questions about my ideas, planning the site, choosing categories, organizing pages, making design decisions, writing copy, creating images, solving WordPress problems, and deciding what to do next. At different moments, AI felt like a friend, mentor, planner, designer, technical guide, and brainstorming partner. That surprised me. I had imagined AI mainly as something that could generate text. I did not expect it to help me work through so many different parts of building a website.

I Asked Questions Constantly

One of the most helpful parts of the process was being able to ask questions whenever I got stuck. If something looked wrong on the screen, I could take a screenshot and ask what I was looking at. Then I could work through the problem one step at a time. There was something reassuring about being able to ask the same kind of question again without feeling embarrassed. AI does not become impatient because I do not understand a technical term. It does not get frustrated because I need something explained again. For a beginner, that made a huge difference.

But AI Did Not Solve Everything

This process was not always smooth. There were moments when I followed the instructions and the problem still did not go away. One of the most frustrating examples involved SSL. SSL, which stands for Secure Sockets Layer, is the technology that helps protect the connection between a website and its visitors. It is also what allows a site to use https:// instead of http://. I followed step after step, but the issue did not seem to resolve the way I expected.

Even now, I am not sure I could explain exactly what happened. That experience taught me something important. AI can be extremely helpful, but it does not always have the full picture. Sometimes a technical problem depends on hosting settings, cached information, server behavior, DNS changes, timing, or something else the AI cannot directly see. When the answer does not work, it can still be very frustrating. AI does not magically remove every obstacle.

I Still Had to Make the Final Decisions

Another thing I learned is that using AI does not mean giving up your own judgment. AI can recommend a design and suggest a category. It can tell me that one option may be better than another, but sometimes I simply do not agree, and that is okay. There were many moments when AI suggested one direction and I decided to go another way because I knew what I wanted CreatePath AI to become. That may be one of the most important lessons I learned. AI can help you think, give you options, and explain the tradeoffs, but the final decision still belongs to you.

How AI Helped Me Build My First WordPress Website

The most exciting part was realizing that I had actually built a website! Not just written a blog post or created a document, but built a real website. Before starting, I would not have imagined that I could do this myself. That feeling was exciting and also a little unbelievable. I was learning as I went, asking questions, making mistakes, changing things, and slowly watching the site take shape. That experience made AI feel much more practical to me. It had helped me do something I had never done before.

Would I Be Able to Build Another Website Completely on My Own?

Probably not yet. If I decided to build another website tomorrow, I would still ask AI for help from the beginning. I would still have questions because I already feel like I have forgotten some of the steps. But AI helped me bridge the gap between having an idea and actually building something. That made the whole experience meaningful, productive, and genuinely exciting.

What I Would Tell Another Beginner

If you are looking at AI, WordPress, or another new technology and wondering whether you are capable of learning it, I understand that feeling. It is easy to stop before you start because something looks too technical. But I think the most important first step is simply believing that you can begin. You do not need to understand everything or know all the terminology. You do not need to have the entire plan figured out. You can start with one question and may be surprised by how far you can go.

What I Learned From Building CreatePath AI

Building CreatePath AI taught me that AI can be useful in more ways than I had expected. It can help with planning, explain unfamiliar technical concepts, organize ideas, assist with design decisions, troubleshoot problems, and help you keep moving when you are stuck. But it is also important to remember that AI can sometimes give instructions that do not solve the problem, and it should not make every decision for you. For me, the most valuable way to use AI has been as a partner in the process, not as the person in charge. I ask questions, learn, experiment with AI’s help, and make the final decision myself.

Final Thought

CreatePath AI began as an idea. With AI helping me along the way, I learned enough to turn that idea into a real website. I still have much more to learn, and that is part of what makes the experience exciting. If you are standing at the beginning of something new and wondering whether you can do it, my advice is simple: Do not wait until you know everything. Start, ask questions, learn as you go, and see what you can build. If you want to know more about why I created this website and the background behind it, you can read About CreatePath AI.
